ABOUT

Wanderlust In My Heart

I blame my grandparents. My “Momer” and Papa introduced me to traveling on summer and winter school vacations when I was very young. Sometimes it was to a camp on Lake Okeechobee over Christmas break for New Years, once to Atlanta for a wedding, another time to several states in the New England area to visit family (and an introduction to theater), then down to Key West for a family friend’s Coast Guard promotion event.
The biggest adventure we took was for a whole summer in an RV across the United States. We started in FL, crossed the southern states to Texas, headed north to Wyoming, turned back East to visit family in South Dakota and then head back South East to Florida. We stayed at campgrounds all over the place, met some really cool people (too bad social media wasn’t around then, haha) and saw incredible sites. Mississippi River, Alamo, Grand Canyon (north and south entrances), Grand Teton, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse and so many more! THIS! This trip is what really lit my travel bug!

My Travel Time

Trips with my grandparents paired with my family moving several times until I was about five years old, contributed to my unsettled soul. Originally, I planned to pack up all that I owned in my car (or in a backpack) and travel to wherever I ended up. Between life and love, I didn’t quite make the trip as early in my life as I had planned, BUT I have been busy traveling as much as possible whenever possible, including a solo US “road trip of a lifetime” in 2012. Since then, I have traveled throughout Florida, to North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Nevada, Washington, New York, Mexico, Switzerland, and France, as well as I have been on cruises, to name a few places. I have traveled solo, with friends, with my Mom and a lot with my husband, Joe.

My Incredible Hubby’s Travel Time

Thankfully, my husband has a similar travel infatuation as I do, so we make an excellent pair! We have goals to travel as much as possible, whenever possible. You’ll find a lot of posts from me, but my husband will also contribute writings from his perspective and his travel experiences. He has spent a lot of his life traveling with his parents, solo, with friends and with me. He had an awesome childhood of spending summers on a sailboat with his parents traveling the open Florida waters. How cool is that!

A Little This and That

We also would like to throw in a little of this and little of that, such as how we save money to travel and some of the things we do in our life to make it all happen. This will include money saving ideas, making money ideas, research habits and so on. For us, it’s all part of the fun of being able to travel and to make our life look like we want.

The Future

Our lives will always include some kind of travel, from local day trips near where we live, traveling around the United States and some international travels. Our goal is to bring back our knowledge, fails, wins, hacks and memories so that you can use our experiences to help you travel better. We would like to give you information that may help guide you in your travels, and more importantly, inspire you to escape your ordinary!

We hope you enjoy our travel experiences and that they show you what is possible!

Happy Trails!

The Wanderlusts at Heart,
KD & Hubby Joe
